Introducing Mr. Hicks

Since last week (week 29) I’ve been regularly noticing Braxton Hicks contractions.
I think I felt the first one back in week 27, but they’re fairly regular and very noticeable now.

They’re painless, and for me can best be described as the tight abdominal feeling you’d get if you were to push your stomach out all the way … or if you had a full bladder … but the tightness is inwards, not outwards.
It’s not a ‘bursting’ feeling – just one of tightness, but not tight as if you were squeezing your abs.

I’ve started an Excel sheet to track both Eliza’s movements and the BH Contractions.
On average, she moves every 1-2 hours. She also tends to move within 35 minutes of me eating.

I’ve noticed quite a few of the BH Contractions coming in within 10 minutes of her starting to move, but I’ll have to track this further to see if there’s any real correlation there.
The BH Contractions seem to be between 1.5 and 2.5 hours apart.

It’s hard to track these occurrences, as I don’t notice them so much when I’m running around – and there’s a lot of running around going on right now with the final push to get the house done 🙂

Yesterday morning, I woke up sometime around 4am because of the dogs.
Frank let them out, but I was wide awake.
I noticed Eliza kicking a bit, so started poking her back. She responded, following the pokes up my left side. It was very heart-warming to feel.
