My Birthing Room

I have chosen to birth in the mezzanine of our house.

The mezzanine is the cozy carpeted 1/2-story floor above the kitchen.
It has its own staircase, boasts 100+ year old exposed timber, features a balcony-type opening looking into the kitchen’s vaulted ceiling, and (best of all for this purpose) has plumbing.

When we bought the house, the windows (there are three) had been boarded up and sided over (for insulation purposes??), so one of our first tasks was to uncover them. This winter, however, we’ve realized just how drafty they are!

We ran draft-excluding plastic sheeting over the frames to seal the room up more, and it’s helped a huge amount.

I’ve hung a drape from the ceiling beams, and will be accenting the room with artificial flowers and vines, some living plants, and Japanese artwork.

It should look rather nice when finished 😉
I’ve even mentioned the possibility to Frank of building a wooden frame around the birthing pool so that we can use the room like a spa!!!
Then again – the pool is going to take up a large portion of the room, so maybe space would be better than pool …
