Week 9 – Grape, olive, or peppermint?

It’s been a long week.
The fatigue still is hitting me hard, but the nausea seems to have subsided.

I’ve felt rather guilty for leaving Frank to do a lot of the cleaning and cooking on top of the fantastic work that he’s been doing over at the house.
The kitchen is well on the way to completion. The wet-bar area was completed on Monday, and work then shifted onto the central island.

We had some dear friends over at the weekend to enjoy the 4th of July with us.
They very kindly brought a gifted bone china tea set, together with the long awaited baby pram basket!!

We’re still trying to figure out how to get the awkwardly designed under-carriage over here: I suspect that some of the original welds will have to be sawn, in order to allow the sides to sandwich together, creating more of a large picture-frame sized package, rather than that of a large dog kennel!!

With any luck, friends and/or family visiting later this year will be able to bring that portion over so that the pram is complete.

This week marks the last month of the first trimester.
It really has flown by … and despite the beginnings of a bump, it’s still not quite setting in.
Okay, let’s be honest here … I’m totally NOT missing the menstrual cramps. Ugh … definately a perk.

Two days ago, I found my legs felt quite achy, and then in the evening, my throat started getting sore! I woke up around 3am and did a bit of Reki-style energy healing which really relieved the pain … but due to the air con in the office, swallowing was again difficult around 10:30am yesterday. Last night was miserable. My nose was all stufffed up, so breathing was uncomfortable, which totall ruined my sleep.
Another day, another dollar.

Yesterday was my ‘for the company’ afternoon off without pay.
They’ve actually worked rather nicely, though I more than make up the hours during the rest of the week. It’s just nice to have a whole afternoon off.
This afternoon, we had some egg mayo with fresh cress and parsley sandwiches. (I bought a bunch of cress seeds a week ago, and have been enjoying the benefits!)

We then went over to the house, where I crashed out on the porch with a blanket over my shoulders and neck. It’s quite surprising, really, how cool it was in the shade, while the sun felt like an inferno on my skin. I think 10 minutes in the sun was enough to get me feeling uncomfortable!

ABOUT BABY:
Weight: 2grams (0.7ounces).
Size: 2.5 – 3 cm (size of a large grape, an olive, or one of those hard swirly peppermints).

This week, the reproductive organs and hair folicles will be forming.
The arms and legs are longer and straighter than previously, and the hands will be flexed at the wrist and can meet over the heart. The fingers are longer, and are enlarged at the ends, as the touch pads are still developing.

This is often a time when people will opt for genetical defect testing, but I ask myself what difference it would really make if something were ‘wrong’. I’d just end up stressing about it for the remaining 6 months, and as these tests are sometimes incorrect, the stress could be totally needlessly.
