My doctor is Dr. Jean A. Cairns. She has a partner in her office who is pregnant with twins, and plans on them being delivered by Dr. Cairns. As someone else stated; ‘If her partner trusts her, so can I’.
I wasn’t interested in having a full-blown physical.
I believe that I know my body well … and if they were to diagnose me with anything, I’d probably end up worrying myself to the death over it.
Really, the only purpose in going to see the doctor was so that she could sign a form stating that I am indeed pregnant.
(This is the first document in a string of forms/letters needed to fulfil the paperwork requirements for filing a home birth.)
Dr. Cairns was very obviously NOT impressed that I’d never had a PAP exam, or a physical. When she came in with the paperwork, congratulated us, and asked if we’d had any positive tests ourselves, she seemed deflated when I answered “five”!
When I explained that we pretty much planned on a birth where only those who made it were present to welcome it, it was almost as if I’d questioned her value in the world and poo-pood her education and knowledge. When I asked about ultrasounds (recommended at 20 weeks (or in her words, “women HAVE to have then at 20 weeks…)) she was VERY quick to state that without prenatal care, her malpractise insurance wouldn’t cover something going wrong
… you what????? Sometimes I really do hate Doctors.
If you didn’t read the post ‘Hospital/Home’, click here to read a quoted segment which pretty sums up why I want to do this ‘on my own’.
One response to “Meeting with Dr. OBGYN”
Seems to me if this doctor was so uneasy with you that you would change doctors to one who is more open-minded and be there for you IF need be!!!
